Batsheva's cabin is a lavish one, covered in maps, trinkets, and various notes and books. An upholstered chair sits behind a heavy desk, where she goes to sit after pulling up a chair next to it rather than across.

Batsheva

"Come, sit." Even speaking to her favourite, she still leans towards this type of language... "And don't worry, you're not in any trouble. I simply wanted to keep you informed on something."

Clove

He doesn't mind. Clove sits politely with a hand resting upon each thigh.

"And I'm assuming this is a secret? Tell me fast before I start getting nervous." This is a joke—he's just trying to keep the air lighthearted before Batshever says whatever she needs to.

Batsheva

"Somewhat." She smiles, leaning into her chair. "Do you know that I was not born with the name Batsheva?”

Clove

"It's little out of the ordinary, I have to say. When did you become Batsheva, then?”

Batsheva

"When I became captain. The woman who..." Hm. She hesitates to say she was 'raised' by her, but it kinda was that... "Who had the name before me. She passed it along, as part of the role of captain. Thus, the name Batsheva continues to carry weight. I carry both the legacy, and the reigns of the seas. The constancy of Batsheva keeps a sort of order." At least, that's her belief.

Batsheva clears her throat, and looks at her desk, picking at small pile of coins to pull one into her palm. "Your father may show his age, but I have to intention to seem to wilt over time. With my birthday having just passed, I have decided.. to truly seek a successor in earnest."

Clove

Clove notes her hesitation but won't dig any deeper. He understands the complicated feeling, as do many who are forced to grow up in this world.

"You're very generous, in the end," he says with a soft voice. "But this is different than your standard third generation business. What are you thinking of? Are we meeting her?"

(Yes, he assumes they'll be a girl.)

Batsheva

And he's right! "Normally, encroachment upon my trade routes would be nipped in the bud by my crew, on their own. But we are close enough to my home that I, somewhat selfishly, wanted to seek a girl there." She shrugs. "Tis easier to keep the tale going if she looks like me, yes?"

Her tone turns a bit soft as well. "You must know though, Clove. Even though I won't place the weight of my name on your shoulders, I will still be certain that every Batsheva keeps you and yours safe." She leans closer, meeting Clove's eyes. "And in turn, I would ask that you aid her if she requests if. If something were to happen to me." let's raise death flags with mama
